Ph.D. Eng. Professor Valentin POPA, born in 1964, obtained the title of engineer in the field of Electronics and Telecommunications (1989) and the title of doctor (1998) in the electronic components, devices and circuits field, with the thesis “Contributions to increasing the modems processing speed” at the Technical University Gheorghe Asachi from Iași. The entire career was carried out at the “Stefan cel Mare” University of Suceava, starting with 1990 the positions of trainer, assistant, lecturer, associated professor and professor. Since 2009 he has been a doctoral supervisor in the Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications domain, and from 2012 until now he is the rector of “Stefan cel Mare” University of Suceava. He is the author or co-author of 4 books published in prestigious publishers, author and co-author of 40 scientific articles published in ISI Web of Science quoted journals, Hirsch WOS index - 6 and Hirsch Google Schoolar index - 12, with a cumulative Impact Factor of 16.24 and Relative Influence Score of 7.2. He is the author or co-author of over 50 scientific articles indexed in the BDI, author or co-author of over 60 scientific articles published in volumes of national and international conferences and in other publications. He is a member of the specialized committee CNATDCU - Electronics, Telecommunications and Nanotechnologies. Director or project manager for over 20 national or European funded research projects and over 10 private-sector research contracts. He is the author of a patent for invention and obtained 4 gold medals, 4 silver medals and a bronze medal at the inventions and innovations salons both in the country (Pro Invent - Cluj Napoca, Traian Vuia – Timișoara) and abroad (Geneva, Chișinău). Currently he is part of the team of the NANOINF research laboratory within the “Integrated Center for Research, Development and Innovation for Advanced Materials, Nanotechnologies and Distributed Manufacturing and Control Systems”, which has its location at “Stefan cel Mare” University in Suceava. The main field of research includes RFID systems, IoT systems, LPWAN technologies, applied electronics and communications. He will participate in finalizing the experimental laboratory demonstrator, having an important role in optimizing the final product, based on the experience in the field accumulated by years.
